Thanks! I had an absolutely blast writing the story, and my illustrator is showering me with adorable sketches. I will definitely post updates. I should also post an update about the sketchnote field guide! Thanks for the reminder. :)

I was talking with a friend about something completely different and she mentioned this video link for someone who did something similar to you. I thought you might find it interesting: http://www.youtube.com/profile?feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_68737&user=kimmaytube#p/c/5/4_LKGqydL8s

Would love to know what you think.

Hmm... my fault, I must not have articulated this properly. My question is what do you do when you're trying to process information. For instance, when you are stumped by a problem, or you have to learn a lot in a short amount of time, what action do you find yourself doing, consciously or unconsciously, that helps you puzzle through the problem/information?

So reading magazine may very well be your action, but I'm guessing it isn't, only because that is an action itself, of reading the information in the magazine. Now if you were listening to a lecture, and something confused you, what would you do (other than ask a question) to help you work through the information that confused you?

Does that make sense?

If I understood the question clearly, my thinking action is reading fashion and art magazines.

I believe time is also a factor, in conjunction with the two options you listed. For instance, I have been a part of the swing dance community since late August 2010. I began noticing a month or two ago that the conversations I was having with the regular attendees for the dances had shifted.

We weren't just talking about dancing anymore. We were talking about our interests. Turns out, I have overlapping interests with some of these people, and we ended up exchanging Twitter information. Eventually, I started friending people on Facebook to help me learn names. That simple act gave me context so next time I saw them at a dance, I could say, "Hey, so how did ____ go?"

Building relationships of any kind takes time. Which stinks, because I'm impatient with that sort of thing. Anyway, it seems that time, and the act of sharing, goes a long way toward building such friendships.

Each chapter starts with a quote that speaks to the theme of the chapter, and then within the chapter there are quotes in the margins. Good times. I think I might do a sketch in my little sketch diary that I found over the weekend.
